In An Na's novel, A Step from Heaven, Young Ju is raised in a dysfunctional family, struggling through her father's abusive behavior and the common difficulties faced by many immigrants.
Here are some questions to explore:
- What are your thoughts on this article?
- How is it relevant to the story that we are reading?
- From what you have read so far, what can you infer about the effect that Young Ju's upbringing will have on her? Will she too be resilient or will she crumble under the weight?
it seems to me that girls are able to cope with childhood tradigies alot better than boys are. but for children to grow up seeing that drugs or other things hurt the well being of there parents may cause them to be against all of those things. some kids might follow in the same path as there parents. but according to the arctile girls are more likely to pursue a normal life
ReplyDeletei thought it was a good article ,and i learned about being reslient
ReplyDelete2.b/c it talks about people having troubles at young ages like Young Ju
3.if she dosnt be more reslient then she will have the same troubles as when she was a kid
I think that girls may be more resilient because they are better at releasing emotions which allow them to let it all out and heal while men hold it in. I think that this is relavent to our novel because it list out the ways that ju could be effected by the abuse in the future. I think ju may be a person who does not speak up for herself but will learn that she should never do that to anybody.
ReplyDeletewell usually when it comes to girls (no offense to any girls out there lol) they are pretty headstrong they will stop at NOTHING to get what they want even if thats getting over a troubled past. I believe its because they put up with so much sh*t now these days dealing with breakups, death or anything of that nature. That they can deal with anything IF they put there mind to it
ReplyDeleteI think the results of the study are inaccurate; categorys not that broad. The results weren't all that surprising regardless.
ReplyDeleteIt is relevant to the story becuase Young Ju is a facing a stressfull upbringing.
I think that Young Ju will be resilient, but will have her breakdowns.
I thought this article had alot of useful information in it. I agree with this artile. It think that girls do handle bad situation better than boys. Sometimes boys over react causing them to get physical with each other. This is relevant to our story because Young Ju is having family problems too. Her dad has a drinking problem and she also is going to be going to a new school. The story gives examples of girls and boys that are having issues like Young Ju. The story states that girls deal with situations better. I think since Young Ju is so young, that she could crumble. She has alot of things on her shoulders right now and she might not be able to handle it, but she may get through.
ReplyDelete1.My thoughts on this article are that it is cool how scintist can do experiments on children and how they come grow up out of an abusive relation ship and come out to be responsible adults.
ReplyDelete2.It is relevant because in the story young ju is in a abusive relationship with her father
3. idk
stressful childern it does make since childern shouldnt be stressed they need to be happy,
ReplyDeletein ways young ju is stressed about somethings as a child but with child isnt and her father is an alcholic and i understand were she causes from in the noval cause i deal with an alcholic parent also, she will be resilient shes strong
I believe the article was very informative. I think that maybe girls are able to cope with problems better, like the article said, because they feel like they have people to talk to. They are more open with people. This article is relevent to the book A Step From Heaven because like some people living in dysfunctional families, so is Young Ju. Her father is an alcoholic and treats her and her mother badly. (Like when he slapped her mother.) I believe that through these struggles Young Ju will learn to be a stronger person in the future. I believe she will be resilient.
ReplyDelete1)I think that people need to relize what they are doing to their children.
ReplyDelete2)because the father in the story is a drunk and is abusive.
3)I think that later on in life she might start acting out because of the abuse she has seen inflicked on her mother.
4)I think that she might crumble under the weight and she wont be able to take it any more.
1)this artical seems true...mostly.
ReplyDelete2)i dont think it is...i dont see an resemblence.....
3)she will grow up not wanting to go to college or anything
My thoughts on this article is that girls are most likely to bounce back if they grew up in an abusive family. This article relates to the book because Young Ju grew up with her father drinking and getting mad quickly; he would then beat them- her mother, brother, and herself- till he gave them black eyes. he would also get mad at her little brother because he would cry as a little child seeing haw his father would want him to grow up and become a man at a young age.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this article that girls are more able to cope with childhood problems better than guys. This study shows how family stresses effect guys much worse than girls. this may be why there are so many more men in jail than women. This is clearly the casee in the story we are reading in the fact that Young Ju handled the situation better than Joon. Hopefully she has learned from this and will not repeat the mistakes her parents made. I think she will be resiliant in this situation.
ReplyDeleteThis article seems to be seening something that is negative and seeing the out come which are ther children into something postive.
ReplyDeleteits relavent to the story we are reading because Young Ju's dad is aggresive and abuusive and might have a certain type of addiction.
iam thinkning that Young Ju will be resilient when she is older. She will be a strong and independent young Gook women. She will probably remeber these moments that are in her life right now as a little girl. but will she gets older it will help her be a women that forgets the past and becomes quiet and successful.
i agree with the article girls can handle and deal with there childhood story problems. but hopefully she has learned from this and will not repeat the mistakes her parents made. I think she will be resiliant in this situation.
