One author writes about the newfound reliance on Wikipedia and how it has affected our lives, while critics of the site ask: Are we dangerously dependent on Wikipedia?

The Wikipedia Revolution

Respond to this article:
  • How is Wikipedia beneficial?
  • How is it relevant?
  • In what ways is it reliant? How is it not?
  • Any other thoughts you may have...

  1. wikipedia is beneficial because it goes so in depth of a subject, in fact wikipedia helped me learn about my religion (wicca) and i also learned about satanism and what it really is...

  4. Wikipedia is beneficial because its a quick and easy way to get information on a topic. Its relevant only if someone updates the information, but some people can change the information on wikipedia, so at times it might not be relevant.

  5. wikipedia is beneficial because it is convenient and it has articles on just about everything. I don't think wikipedia is completely relient because of the fact that there are multiple authors. I think that wikipedia is a bit reliable but not always.

  6. its beneficial because it takes you were you eanna go. its relevant because it can give you good info on something that you dont know much about. its reliat because it gives you an idea of your subject but at the same time the info can be false. other thought i might have would be why want you just look it up on google.

I think it is good but it can also be bad.
There is alot of true info. and there is alot of false. It can be helpful when you are writing a paper if you can find the false info and take it out. It is also good when you dont know alot about a subject it will tell you what your looking for.

  9. Wikipedia beneficial because it gives accurate information; it just somthing that does not lie and most of the worl uses it.(millions of people)

It can be releveant; but the Wikipedia doesnt have a mind of its own. its what we think is right so human beings just put what is known throughout. But i would say that we know the most truth.& dont really need the Wikipedia as much.

It is not relieant because anybody can just put sumthing in there that is not right. like instead of calling a flower a flower it can be called a car. there so many different meanings and way to say or spell information/words. Some people just make up words & put a definition behind it; not being real/true.

i woudnt count on it. i would count on the people who surround me and the wiser ppl of this nation to help me understand what i need/want to know.

  10. Wikipedia allows for information to be complied in a logical and correct manner. Anyone can access the site; able to quickly locate information.

It is relevant to our classwork because it allows people to share information. The news is all so up-to-date.

Wikipedia is reliant in that each page is edited and updated by people who care about the sites accuracy. Generally speaking personal opinions are not permitted. Since it can be edited by almost anyone false information can be added to the site, but the majority of these discrepancies are removed by moderators/editors.

Wikipedia is for the most part a reliable source of information, but you should always check multiple sites when dealing with information gotten from the internet. It is not the ultimate source of all information, and can be influenced by someone's opinion. You can find some very useful articles, but nothing on the internet can be fully trusted.

  11. How is Wikipedia beneficial? It can be helpful when you are looking for broad information about a topic.

How is it relevant? It can be used to do research on a project.

In what ways is it reliant? Wikipedia can take you to other websites that has true information on the topic.

How is it not? People can log on and chage the information at any time and turn it false.

wikipedia is a pretty good place to look up info about a topic but, anyone can change the topic and info so it is not always accurate

  12. Wikipedia is beneficial because it gives important infromation to viewers. It gives people facts, statistics and loads of definitions.

Wikipedia is important because it has a lot of supporting details on topics, events and ideas.

Wikipedia is reliant because it does give some real information, however, anyone can update or change the information. They may change the information to where it is false or untrue.

Personally, I don't like Wikipedia because it is not really reliant. You never know if the information you are getting is true or false.

  13. i think it is benificial because they are always updateing there sit so some times theres never any thing old. some time its relevant cause they have almost every thing some times it true and some times its not

  14. wikipedia is pretty much the mooost popular encyclopedia on the net and the amazing thing about wikipedia is that no matter what subject it is your learning about it goes so in depth of the subject all the way to its origin. it has become very reliant for every user because of the support and detail of every subject and although some people belive that some of the information isnt right 90% of the info is accurate... do you know of any better online encyclopedia?

  15. wikipedia is easy way to getr information you need. wikipedia is relevant to people that need information quickley. i do not believe that wikipedia is reliable in any ways. simply because i have herd of many false informaation being posted on the site and i have also found some false context.
